Lost in a sea of costume jewelry a rare and important treasure found. A gold box made during the reign of Louis XV of France in Paris at the Maison Commune in 1739 and later bejeweled by Emperor Alexander III as a gift. The Russian Imperial Court was quite noted for giving lavish gifts to Russians and foreign dignitaries and the practice became increasingly popular during the reign of Emperor Alexander III (1881-1894). Usually small boxes were given to Russians in state service, however they were also awarded to foreign dignitaries as an act of diplomacy or as a means of commemorating special occasions connected to the imperial family. The box is lavishly hand chased in a moiré pattern and scrolling florals original to the box. Emperor Alexander III had the box set with his cypher beneath the Imperial crown flanked by two floral sprigs made of white gold, rose and old-cut diamonds. The box measures 2 ½ x 3 ¼” and a gross weight of 160.8 grams.
Furniture to include a Kindel mahogany Queen Anne style highboy, Arts and Crafts style oak dining table and matching chairs, Arts and Crafts style oak china cabinet, Stickley Arts and Crafts style Morris armchair and ottoman, French Country style dining set, pair Ethan Allen wing back armchairs, Thomasville Hepplewhite style sideboard and Regency style mahogany breakfront and a Regency style parcle gilt vitrine.
